Exploring the Controversy: The Quran’s Perspective on Child Marriage

Child marriage is a sensitive topic that has been debated for centuries. In certain cultures and traditions, the practice of children being married off at a young age is still prevalent. Some individuals justify child marriage by referencing religious texts such as the Quran.

In the Quran, marriage is considered to be a sacred bond between two individuals who are capable of making informed decisions. While the Quran does not explicitly mention a specific age for marriage, it emphasizes the importance of consent and readiness. The Prophet Mohammed himself married a young girl, Aisha, but it is important to note that this was a rare exception and not a rule to be followed.

Islam encourages individuals to marry when they are mature and capable of understanding the responsibilities that come with marriage. It is crucial for both parties to be emotionally and mentally prepared for such a commitment. Child marriage goes against these principles and can have detrimental effects on the physical, emotional, and psychological well-being of the child.

It is essential to educate individuals about the negative consequences of child marriage and to advocate for laws and policies that protect children from being forced into such unions. While the Quran is a sacred text that guides the beliefs and practices of Muslims, it is important to interpret its teachings in a way that upholds the values of compassion, justice, and equality for all individuals, including children.

She managed to influence the comprehensive national dialogue conference in Yemen to pass and apply a law of criminalizing the marriage of minors under the age of 18 , and that is after launching her first video to rally the international media to denounce the marriage of minors. Below are highlights of her main not limited to her achievement during the awareness campaign she held throughout herlife:
