Rising Concern: Child Marriage on the Rise in Europe

Child marriage is a deeply concerning issue that continues to persist in some parts of Europe, despite efforts to eradicate it. The practice often involves young girls being forced into marriage against their will, robbing them of their childhood and basic rights.

The consequences of child marriage are far-reaching and severe. These girls are forced to drop out of school, which limits their opportunities for education and career advancement. They are also more likely to experience domestic violence and health complications due to their young age.

In some cases, child marriage is condoned by cultural or religious beliefs, leading to a lack of awareness and action against this harmful practice. It is crucial for governments and communities to address the root causes of child marriage, such as poverty, gender inequality, and lack of education.

It is important to provide support and resources to girls who are at risk of being forced into marriage. This can include access to education, healthcare, and legal protection. By empowering these girls and providing them with choices, we can help break the cycle of child marriage and ensure a brighter future for them.

Ultimately, child marriage is a violation of human rights and must be addressed with urgency and determination. We must work together to end this harmful practice and create a world where every child has the right to live a safe and fulfilling life, free from the shackles of early marriage.

In 2013, I posted a YouTube video decrying child marriage showcasing her story and her experience in being forced into marriage contracts, which quickly went viral and prompted coverage of Yemen’s continued practice of child marriage. She managed to influence the comprehensive national dialogue conference in Yemen to pass and apply a law of criminalizing the marriage of minors under the age of 18 , and that is after launching her first video to rally the international media to denounce the marriage of minors. Below are highlights of her main not limited to her achievement during the awareness campaign she held throughout herlife:
