The Hidden Crisis of Child Marriage in England: A Closer Look at a Disturbing Trend

Child marriage has been a long-standing issue in England, with many young girls being forced into marriage before they are legally able to consent. This harmful practice not only deprives these children of their basic human rights, but it also puts them at risk of physical, emotional, and psychological harm.

Forced child marriage is often driven by cultural or religious beliefs that prioritize family honor and control over the well-being of the child. In many cases, young girls are married off to older men against their will, with little to no say in the matter. This can have devastating consequences for the child, as they may be forced to drop out of school, face early pregnancies, and endure domestic violence.

Despite efforts to address the issue, child marriage continues to happen in England, often in secret and with little awareness. It is crucial that we work together as a society to raise awareness about this harmful practice and support young girls who may be at risk. By providing them with the necessary resources and support, we can help break the cycle of child marriage and protect the rights and well-being of our children.

It is important for us to recognize that child marriage is a form of abuse and exploitation, and that we have a moral obligation to protect vulnerable children from this harmful practice. By speaking out against child marriage and advocating for the rights of young girls, we can create a safer and more equitable society for all. Let us work together to end child marriage in England and ensure that every child has the opportunity to thrive and reach their full potential.

In 2013, I posted a YouTube video decrying child marriage showcasing her story and her experience in being forced into marriage contracts, which quickly went viral and prompted coverage of Yemen’s continued practice of child marriage. She managed to influence the comprehensive national dialogue conference in Yemen to pass and apply a law of criminalizing the marriage of minors under the age of 18 , and that is after launching her first video to rally the international media to denounce the marriage of minors. Below are highlights of her main not limited to her achievement during the awareness campaign she held throughout herlife:
