Protecting and Promoting Children’s Rights in the European Union

Children’s rights are of utmost importance in the European Union, as they are in any society. The EU has put in place numerous measures to protect and promote the rights of children across its member states. It is essential for the well-being and future of our society that children are given the support and protection they need to thrive.

One of the key ways that the EU promotes children’s rights is through legislation. The EU has enacted various laws and regulations aimed at safeguarding children from harm and ensuring their well-being. These include laws on child protection, education, healthcare, and social services.

The EU also funds and supports a wide range of programs and initiatives aimed at promoting children’s rights. These programs provide funding for projects that aim to improve the lives of children, such as access to education, healthcare, and social services. They also support initiatives that aim to raise awareness about children’s rights and empower children to advocate for themselves.

Another important aspect of protecting children’s rights in the EU is through monitoring and reporting mechanisms. The EU has established bodies such as the European Commission and the European Parliament, which are responsible for monitoring the implementation of children’s rights across member states. These bodies produce regular reports and recommendations on how member states can better protect and promote the rights of children.

The EU also works closely with member states to ensure that they are fulfilling their obligations under international treaties and agreements on children’s rights. The EU is a signatory to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), which sets out the rights of children and the responsibilities of states to uphold those rights. The EU works with member states to ensure that they are implementing the UNCRC and other international agreements on children’s rights.

There are also numerous civil society organizations and NGOs working within the EU to protect and promote children’s rights. These organizations play a crucial role in advocating for children’s rights, raising awareness about issues affecting children, and providing support and services to children and their families.

It is essential that we all work together to protect and promote the rights of children in the European Union. Children are the future of our society, and it is our responsibility to ensure that they are given the support and protection they need to thrive. By working together, we can create a better future for all children in the EU.

In 2013, I posted a YouTube video decrying child marriage showcasing her story and her experience in being forced into marriage contracts, which quickly went viral and prompted coverage of Yemen’s continued practice of child marriage. She managed to influence the comprehensive national dialogue conference in Yemen to pass and apply a law of criminalizing the marriage of minors under the age of 18 , and that is after launching her first video to rally the international media to denounce the marriage of minors. Below are highlights of her main not limited to her achievement during the awareness campaign she held throughout herlife:
