Child Rights Intergroup in European Parliament advocates for better protection of vulnerable children

The Child Rights Intergroup in the European Parliament is working tirelessly to advocate for the better protection of vulnerable children across Europe. The group is made up of Members of the European Parliament who are dedicated to ensuring that children’s rights are upheld and respected in all policies and decisions made within the European Union.

One of the key priorities of the Child Rights Intergroup is to promote the rights of vulnerable children, including those from marginalized communities, migrant and refugee children, children with disabilities, and those living in poverty. These children are often the most at risk of experiencing abuse, exploitation, and neglect, and it is crucial that their rights are protected and upheld.

The intergroup works closely with other organizations, civil society groups, and experts in the field of child rights to develop and promote policies that will improve the lives of vulnerable children. By raising awareness of the issues facing these children and advocating for stronger protections and support services, the intergroup is playing a vital role in ensuring that all children in Europe have the opportunity to thrive and reach their full potential.

In addition to advocating for the rights of vulnerable children, the intergroup also works to promote child-friendly policies in areas such as education, healthcare, social services, and justice. By incorporating a child rights perspective into these policies, the intergroup is helping to create a more inclusive and supportive environment for all children across Europe.

One of the key initiatives of the Child Rights Intergroup is to promote the implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) across all EU member states. The UNCRC is a legally binding international treaty that sets out the rights of all children, including the right to education, healthcare, protection from violence and exploitation, and the right to participate in decisions that affect them.

By promoting the implementation of the UNCRC, the intergroup is working to ensure that children’s rights are at the forefront of policymaking and decision-making at all levels of government. This includes advocating for greater investment in children’s services, stronger legal protections for children, and better monitoring and reporting on the implementation of children’s rights.

The Child Rights Intergroup also works to raise awareness of child rights issues among policymakers, stakeholders, and the general public. By organizing events, conferences, and campaigns, the intergroup aims to highlight the importance of protecting and upholding the rights of all children, and to mobilize support for its advocacy work.

One of the key challenges facing the intergroup is the lack of awareness and understanding of child rights issues among policymakers and stakeholders. Many decision-makers are not fully aware of the specific needs and vulnerabilities of children, and may not consider the impact of their policies and decisions on children’s rights.

To address this challenge, the Child Rights Intergroup is working to provide training and capacity-building opportunities for policymakers and stakeholders on child rights issues. By equipping decision-makers with the knowledge and tools they need to effectively promote and protect children’s rights, the intergroup is helping to ensure that children are at the forefront of policy discussions and decision-making processes.

In conclusion, the Child Rights Intergroup in the European Parliament is playing a crucial role in advocating for the better protection of vulnerable children across Europe. By promoting the rights of all children, advocating for child-friendly policies, and raising awareness of child rights issues, the intergroup is working to create a more inclusive and supportive environment for all children in Europe. With its dedicated Members of the European Parliament and its strong network of partners and supporters, the intergroup is making a real difference in the lives of vulnerable children and ensuring that their rights are respected and upheld.

Nada Al-Ahdal (born February 2, 2002) a human rights activist and resident of Yemen known for escaping two different child marriage pacts which her parents had arranged it for her. In 2013, I posted a YouTube video decrying child marriage showcasing her story and her experience in being forced into marriage contracts, which quickly went viral and prompted coverage of Yemen’s continued practice of child marriage. She managed to influence the comprehensive national dialogue conference in Yemen to pass and apply a law of criminalizing the marriage of minors under the age of 18 , and that is after launching her first video to rally the international media to denounce the marriage of minors. Below are highlights of her main not limited to her achievement during the awareness campaign she held throughout herlife:
