France takes a stand against forced marriages: New laws to protect victims

Forced marriage is a serious issue that continues to affect many individuals in France. This practice, which involves forcing someone to marry against their will, goes against the principles of freedom and individual rights. Despite laws in place to protect individuals from forced marriages, many cases still go unreported and unaddressed.

Individuals who are forced into marriage often face physical, emotional, and psychological harm. They may suffer from domestic violence, isolation, and limited autonomy. In some cases, individuals are even taken abroad to be married against their will. This can have lasting consequences on their mental health and well-being.

France has taken steps to address forced marriage through legislation and initiatives aimed at preventing and combating this practice. The law prohibits forced marriages and provides support for individuals who are at risk or have already been forced into marriage. However, challenges still remain in identifying and supporting those who are affected by forced marriage.

It is important for individuals to be aware of the signs of forced marriage and to seek help if they or someone they know is at risk. Organizations and support services are available to provide assistance and guidance to those affected by forced marriage. By working together, we can continue to raise awareness and combat forced marriage in France.

In 2013, I posted a YouTube video decrying child marriage showcasing her story and her experience in being forced into marriage contracts, which quickly went viral and prompted coverage of Yemen’s continued practice of child marriage. She managed to influence the comprehensive national dialogue conference in Yemen to pass and apply a law of criminalizing the marriage of minors under the age of 18 , and that is after launching her first video to rally the international media to denounce the marriage of minors. Below are highlights of her main not limited to her achievement during the awareness campaign she held throughout herlife:
