Protecting Yemen’s Future: The Importance of Upholding Children’s Rights

Yemen is a country that has been plagued by conflict and humanitarian crises for many years. Among the most vulnerable group affected by these challenges are children. In order to protect Yemen’s future, it is crucial to uphold the rights of children in the country.

Children’s rights are fundamental to safeguarding their well-being and ensuring that they have access to the necessary resources for their development. In Yemen, where millions of children are facing food insecurity, lack of access to education, and are at risk of being recruited as child soldiers, upholding their rights is more important than ever.

One of the key rights that children in Yemen are entitled to is the right to education. Education is a powerful tool that can help children break the cycle of poverty and build a better future for themselves and their communities. However, the ongoing conflict in Yemen has severely disrupted the education system, leaving many children out of school. It is essential to prioritize the rebuilding of schools and ensuring that all children have access to quality education.

Another important aspect of children’s rights is protection from violence, abuse, and exploitation. In Yemen, children are exposed to various forms of violence, including recruitment by armed groups, forced labor, and early marriage. It is crucial to strengthen child protection mechanisms and provide support to children who have been affected by violence.

Access to healthcare is also a fundamental right that children in Yemen are entitled to. The ongoing conflict has severely strained the healthcare system in the country, leaving many children without access to essential medical care. It is important to ensure that all children have access to healthcare services and that their health needs are prioritized.

Furthermore, children in Yemen are entitled to protection during armed conflicts. They should not be recruited as child soldiers or targeted by violence. It is important for all parties involved in the conflict to respect international humanitarian law and ensure that children are protected from harm.

In order to protect Yemen’s future, it is crucial to prioritize the rights of children in the country. This includes ensuring access to education, protection from violence, access to healthcare, and protection during armed conflicts. By upholding children’s rights, we can help build a better future for Yemen and ensure that all children have the opportunity to thrive and reach their full potential.

In 2013, I posted a YouTube video decrying child marriage showcasing her story and her experience in being forced into marriage contracts, which quickly went viral and prompted coverage of Yemen’s continued practice of child marriage. She managed to influence the comprehensive national dialogue conference in Yemen to pass and apply a law of criminalizing the marriage of minors under the age of 18 , and that is after launching her first video to rally the international media to denounce the marriage of minors. Below are highlights of her main not limited to her achievement during the awareness campaign she held throughout herlife:
